Пазлы — популярная и увлекательных настольная игра,
которая на протяжении уже двух с половиной столетий «развлекает» и занимает людей всех
возрастов. История создания этой игры, сочетающей в себе элементы головоломки и
искусства, уходит в XVIII век. А название происходит от английского «puzzle», что в переводе означает просто «головоломка».
История пазлов началась в 1760-х годах,
когда английский картограф, да еще издатель и гравёр по совместительству (ну
просто «мастер на все руки»), Джон Спилсбери создал первый «разрезной
пазл». И была это не игра для развлечения и проведения досуга, как сейчас, а учебное
пособие для детей из богатых семей. Спилсбери наклеивал географические карты на
деревянные доски и разрезал их по границам стран. Некий аналог современной контурной карты, но не на едином листе, а состоящий из нескольких «элементов», которые разрезаны по границам государств того времени, и которые необходимо было сложить в единую «правильную» карту. Такой метод помогал детям
лучше усваивать географию, собирая карту воедино. Спилсбери оказался еще и неплохим коммерсантом. Для «монетизации» своей идеи он запатентовал свое изобретение и открыл собственный магазин по продаже географических пазло-карт.
Идея Спилсбери быстро стала популярной, и вскоре
другие производители, «подхватив» идею Джона, начали делать подобные
головоломки не только с картами, но и с другими изображениями. К концу XVIII
века пазлы стали популярным развлечением среди взрослых, особенно в Англии.
В начале XIX века производство пазлов оставалось
кропотливым, муторным и недешевым процессом. Каждый элемент вырезался вручную
лобзиком, что делало пазлы довольно таки дорогим удовольствием, доступным лишь
состоятельным людям. Однако с развитием технологий и появлением машинного
производства в конце XIX века пазлы стали более дешевыми в производстве и,
соответственно, доступными уже для более широких слоёв населения.
В России пазлы появились ближе к середине XIX века. Называли их «пузелями» и отличались они от привычных нам пазлов необходимостью включения перед их сборкой процедуры «сделай сам». Покупатель получал нераскрашенную картинку и картонку. Картинку необходимо было раскрасить, наклеить на картонку, разрезать по нанесенным линиям на кусочки и только после этого можно было приступать к «сборке» пазла.
Ну, а «прорыв» в производстве пазлов произошел в
1900-х годах, когда был изобретен метод штамповки картона. Это позволило
массово производить пазлы по низкой цене, что привело к настоящему буму
популярности этой игры.
Период Великой депрессии в США неожиданно стал «золотым веком» для пазлов. В трудные экономические времена люди искали недорогие
развлечения, и пазлы идеально подошли для этой цели. Они давали часы «психологической
разгрузки» за небольшую цену, помогая отвлечься от повседневных забот и проблем.
В те времена появились даже еженедельные пазлы,
которые продавались вместе с газетами и журналами. Это постепенно привело к появлению
целой «культуре» собирания пазлов, когда семьи и друзья собирались вместе, чтобы
сложить очередную головоломку.
С дальнейшим развитием технологий продолжали эволюционировать
и пазлы. Появились трехмерные пазлы, позволяющие собирать объемные фигуры и макеты
зданий. Цифровая эра «подарила» любителям головоломок виртуальные пазлы, доступные на
компьютерах и мобильных устройствах.
Однако, несмотря на технологический прогресс,
классические картонные пазлы не утратили своей популярности. Напротив, они сегодня переживают
своеобразное возрождение, особенно в периоды, когда люди ищут спокойные,
медитативные занятия, помогающие отвлечься от стресса и проблем в повседневной
жизни.
Сегодня пазлы — это не просто настольная игра, а уже
целое искусство. Существуют коллекционные пазлы с репродукциями известных
картин, фотографиями природы и городских пейзажей. Некоторые производители
создают эксклюзивные пазлы ограниченными тиражами, которые становятся «объектом» для коллекциониров.
Пазлы нашли свое применение в психологии и
образовании. Они используются для развития мелкой моторики у детей, улучшения
когнитивных функций у пожилых людей, даже применяются в «терапевтических» целях для снятия
стресса и усталости.
