Многие хотя бы раз вживую, на фото или по
телевизору видели впечатляющее зрелище — горящий огонь на вершине нефтяной
вышки. Что это за огонь? Почему он горит на вершине вышки практически
постоянно?
На самом деле, этот «факел» играет важную технологическую
роль в процессе добычи нефти и связан с «феноменом», известным как попутный
нефтяной газ. Когда нефть извлекается из недр земли, она извлекается не одна.
Вместе с ней на поверхность поднимается смесь летучих углеводородов — газов,
которые на большой глубине под высоким давлением находились практически в
растворенном состоянии в нефти.
Этот попутный газ представляет собой тоже, как и
нефть, ценный ресурс, который теоретически можно добывать «параллельно» с
нефтью из одной скважины и затем перерабатывать. Однако на практике это в
подавляющем большинстве случаев экономически нецелесообразно. Дело в том, что
объемы попутного газа совсем невелики по сравнению с объемами добываемой нефти.
Создание инфраструктуры для сбора, транспортировки и переработки небольших
объемов газа, добываемого вместе с нефтью оказывается слишком затратным делом
для нефтедобывающих компаний. Главное — нефть. Газ, действительно, попутный
продукт в этом случае.
Тем не менее, просто выпускать этот газ в
атмосферу нельзя по двум основным причинам. Во-первых, это создаст серьезные
экологические проблемы. Во-вторых, это представляет угрозу безопасности.
Скопление легковоспламеняющихся газов вокруг нефтяной вышки может привести к
взрыву и пожару.
Именно поэтому нефтяные компании запускают процесс
утилизации попутного газа, результаты которого мы наблюдаем в виде горящих
факелов на вершинах вышек. Попутный газ направляется в специальные факельные
установки, где он сжигается. Этот процесс нефтяники называют «факельное
сжигание».
Хотя сжигание попутного газа и кажется сущим расточительством,
оно представляет собой компромисс между экономической целесообразностью,
экологической «ответственностью» и требованиями безопасности. При сжигании газа
метан «превращается» в углекислый газ, который, хотя и остается парниковым
газом, но оказывает меньшее негативное воздействие на атмосферу, чем метан в
чистом виде.
В последние годы, по мере развития технологий,
многие страны и компании стремятся сократить объемы факельного сжигания попутного
газа при добыче нефти. Разрабатываются более эффективные, чем сжигание, методы
утилизации попутного газа, включая его использование для производства
электроэнергии на месте добычи или закачку обратно в пласт для поддержания
давления и увеличения нефтеотдачи месторождения.
