Непременной частью советской квартиры, особенно в «хрущевках», был паркет. Конечно, этот паркет в простых советских квартирах не имел ничего общего с современными стильными и качественными покрытиями из дерева. На тот момент о прочном и долговечном напольном покрытии можно было только мечтать. Но почему выбирали именно паркет в эпоху массового строительства, а не линолеум или другие материалы?
Паркет в условиях массового строительства
В послевоенные годы, когда началось массовое возведение «сталинок», а затем и «хрущевок», перед страной стояла задача — быстро построить как можно больше жилья для граждан. В этих условиях паркет стал наиболее логичным решением для покрытия полов. Это был не вопрос качества, а скорее результат доступности материала и скорости его производства. В отличие от элитных домов, где использовались дорогие породы дерева, такие как дуб, в массовых квартирах, как правило, укладывали паркет из дешёвой древесины.
Массовое использование паркета пришло на пик в сталинскую и хрущевскую эпохи. Укладка паркета «ёлочкой» стала своеобразным стандартом. Это решение не только позволяло более эффективно использовать древесину, но и значительно ускоряло процесс строительства. Прямоугольный вариант укладки пришел немного позже, что ещё больше упростило и удешевило процесс. По сути, паркет был выбором не для красоты или комфорта, а для того, чтобы быстрее завершить работы и закрыть потребность в жилье.
Почему не линолеум
На первый взгляд, использование линолеума кажется более логичным и дешевым решением для массового строительства. Однако в условиях того времени производство линолеума в СССР было затруднено. Линолеум, хотя и производился, но не в тех объёмах, чтобы покрыть потребности всей страны. Проблема была в ограниченных производственных мощностях и химической промышленности, которая не могла обеспечить необходимый объём материалов. К тому же, линолеум того времени не отличался долговечностью и износостойкостью, что делало его менее привлекательным для массового использования.
Паркет, несмотря на свои недостатки, был гораздо проще и дешевле в производстве. Многие паркетные фабрики работали ещё с дореволюционных времён, и их мощности позволяли выпускать большие объёмы дешёвого материала. Лесопильные заводы поставляли недорогое сырьё, в том числе отходы производства, что делало процесс практически безотходным и экономичным. Несмотря на то, что паркет в те времена был недолговечным, быстро рассыхался и требовал частого ремонта, он оставался наиболее доступным вариантом в условиях ограниченных ресурсов. Именно поэтому в массовом строительстве выбор пал на паркет, несмотря на его недостатки.

Выбор в пользу паркета в те времена был не продиктован эстетическими соображениями, а стал вынужденным шагом в условиях ограниченных ресурсов и производственных возможностей советской промышленности. Линолеум, хотя и производили, но он не мог удовлетворить потребности массового строительства в нужном объеме. Паркет, несмотря на его недолговечность и некачественность, оказался лучшим вариантом для быстрого и недорогого покрытия полов в условиях послевоенного восстановления страны. Именно этот практический и экономически оправданный выбор сделал паркет основным материалом для советских квартир на долгие годы.
