Самовар стал неотъемлемой частью русской бытовой
жизни не так давно, примерно 300 лет назад, и использовался всего лишь на
протяжении пары веков. Но именно самовар считается одним из знаковых элементов
нашей культуры, о котором знают и в других странах. Как же обычный предмет
обихода превратился в символ, прочно ассоциирующийся с Россией?
В России любят пить чай, но у нас нет таких чайных плантаций, как в Китае или Шри-Ланке. Промышленным чаеводством в нашей стране стали заниматься с начала 20 века. И чай у нас потребляется в основном привозной в силу того, что это заморский напиток из жарких стран. В России до появления чая был свой исконной русский напиток — сбитень, заваренный из трав, ягод и меда. Впервые упоминания о нем были еще в 11-12 веке. В зимнее время пили горячий сбитень, летом, наоборот, его охлаждали и утоляли им жажду. То есть чай был очень похож по способу приготовления на тот старинный взвар и просто заменил его. После того как в 17 веке чай завезли в нашу страну, с каждым годом росла популярность заморского напитка. Чай давал необычный бодрящий эффект, некоторые использовали его как лекарственное средство. После указа Александра I от 1821 г. о разрешении продажи чая в трактирах и ресторанах, в стране начался бурный рост чайного потребления.
Первые самовары стали изготавливать все-таки не для чая, а для сбитня. До самоваров в России была другая кухонная утварь — сбитенник, получивший свое название от самого напитка. И по форме он напоминал наш современный чайник с носиком и ручкой для переноски. По принципу работы сбитенник был похож на самовар. Сосуд был разделен на 2 части перегородкой, в одну из которой закладывали древесные щепки, уголь и поджигали, чтобы нагреть соседний резервуар. Можно сказать, что самовар — более усовершенствованная разновидность сбитенника.
Некоторые
историки считают, что прообраз самовара существовал еще в античности. В Риме и
Греции для кипячения воды использовали аутепсу (в переводе с древнегреческого
«сам варящий»), которая также состояла из 2 емкостей: для жидкости и для угля.
В Китае существовала такая посуда, как «хо-го», также идентичная самовару. Она
представляла собой металлическую чашу со встроенной трубой и поддувалом. Такая
утварь нужна была для приготовления еды непосредственно на обеденном столе.
Металлическая посуда на территории древней Руси
была широко распространена уже в домонгольский период. В быту использовались
котлы, чаши, кубки из железа, бронзы и меди, которые изготавливали кустарным
способом. С развитием металлургии и появлением заводов на территории нашей
страны кухонную утварь стали выпускать промышленные предприятия. Появились не
только чугунные котелки, но и медная посуда: меденики (сосуды для хранения
жидкости) и сбитенники. Производство последних было обусловлено необходимостью
кипятить жидкость и приготавливать взвар без использования печи. Сбитень стал
популярным напитком не только дома, но и на ярмарках и во время народных
гуляний, особенно в холодную погоду. На улицах появились торговцы горячим сбитнем,
которых стали называть «ходебщиками» или «сбитенщиками».
Хотя Тульская область считается родиной самоваров, первые русские самовары начали изготавливать на Урале, на Иргинском заводе, затем Суксунском. Именно на Урале тогда была развита добыча медной и железной руды. И вскоре изготовление самоваров развернулось и в Тульской области. Считается, что два предприятия, находящиеся в Суксуне и Туле, принадлежали одному хозяину Демидову. Он перебросил своих специалистов с Урала и начал изготавливать самовары в другом месте, поближе к центральной части России. Документальное подтверждение о первых тульских самоварах датируется 1746 г. Но, несмотря на это, Тула быстро стала главным городом изготовления самоваров, и к 1850 г. в Туле работало 28 предприятий, выпускающих самовары.
Изначально
самовары были жаровые (еще их называют угольными или дровяными), имеющие топку
и колосниковую решетку. В более ранний период самовары делали из меди,
мельхиора, затем стали использовать более дешевые сплавы.
Встречались самовары из драгоценных металлов — золота и серебра, которые могли
позволить себе только состоятельные люди. Самовары делали не только разного объема, но и различной формы, и их
постоянно пытались улучшить. Самовары стали объектом художественной росписи и
гравировки, и некоторые из них были настоящими шедеврами и творениями
декоративно-прикладного искусства, о которых знали за рубежом. В 19-ом столетии
самовар глубоко вошел в повседневность народа, превратившись в символ национальной
культуры. Он стал важным элементом, объединяющим различные социальные группы. Его
можно было встретить и на богатом столе, и в скромном жилище, в ресторане или
чайной. Самовар стал символом обыденной жизни и быта в России. Ни одни семейные
посиделки не проходили без него, за чашкой чая обсуждались важнейшие моменты и
принимались нужные решения.
В середине 19 в. появились керосиновые самовары. Они пользовались популярностью в тех местах, где керосин стоил недорого, в частности в горах Кавказа. В 1956 г. в Туле наладили производство электрических самоваров. А затем создали комбинированный самовар, который мог работать от электричества, а мог — от огня.
В Российской
империи самовар являлся символом гостеприимства. Его воспевали в песнях и
литературных произведениях, художники изображали на своих полотнах. В народе
существовало множество пословиц, поговорок и частушек, связанных с самоваром.
Популярность самовара обусловлена тем, что чаепитие у русских людей могло
объединить всех: родных, близких друзей, долгожданных гостей за одним столом. А приготовленный чай был особенно вкусным, пропитанный особенным дымным ароматом. Обычный самовар ассоциировался с теплом, радушием и хорошим настроением, отчего стал важной частью самобытной русской культуры.
