На бирке, пришитой к лифу платья, значилось имя «Беннетт». В списках добровольных наблюдателей за погодой действительно была найдена некая Мэри С. Беннетт из Фэрвью, штат Иллинойс, которая вела наблюдения в 1886-1888 годах.
Однако, как уже было сказано, добровольные наблюдатели не использовали телеграф для передачи своих данных. Более того, Фэрвью, скорее всего, не входило ни в один из телеграфных контуров, используемых Службой связи. Таким образом, версия о Мэри Беннетт как владелице платья выглядит маловероятной.
