Мозг — это удивительный орган, который может обрабатывать и хранить
огромное количество информации. Он состоит из миллиардов нейронов,
которые соединяются друг с другом с помощью синапсов. Синапсы — это
точки контакта между нейронами, которые меняют свою проводимость в
зависимости от электрических сигналов, которые поступают к ним. Это
позволяет мозгу учиться и запоминать разные виды информации, такие как
зрительные, слуховые, текстовые и другие.
Нейронные сети — это компьютерные модели, которые пытаются имитировать
работу мозга. Они состоят из математических узлов, которые соединяются
друг с другом с помощью весов. Веса — это числа, которые определяют силу
связи между узлами. Они изменяются в процессе обучения нейронной сети,
когда она получает различные данные на входе и выходе. Это позволяет
нейронной сети обучаться и запоминать разные виды информации.
Нейронные сети имеют много применений в разных областях, таких как
искусственный интеллект, компьютерное зрение, речевое распознавание и
других. Однако, нейронные сети имеют свои недостатки: они требуют много
энергии и памяти для своей работы, а также не могут работать в режиме
реального времени, то есть обрабатывать данные по мере их поступления.
Но что если бы мы могли создать нейронную сеть не из математических
узлов, а из физических объектов, которые бы повторяли свойства
нейронов и синапсов? Такая нейронная сеть была бы более эффективной и
энергосберегающей, а также способной работать в режиме реального
времени.
Именно такую нейронную сеть создали ученые из Университета Сиднея и
Университета Калифорнии в Лос-Анджелесе. Они использовали нанопровода —
это очень тонкие проводники, толщина которых равна миллиардной части метра.
Нанопровода случайным образом складывались в сложные структуры, похожие
на игру «Палочки», формируя нейронную сеть. В точках пересечения
нанопроводов происходило изменение электрического сопротивления под
воздействием электрических импульсов. Это явление называется
«переключением памяти на основе сопротивления» (resistive memory
switching), и оно аналогично тому, что происходит с синапсами в мозгу.
Ученые показали, что нейронная сеть из нанопроводов может обучаться и
запоминать различные последовательности электрических импульсов, которые
соответствуют изображениям, вдохновленным тем, как человеческий мозг
обрабатывает информацию. Например, нейронная сеть из нанопроводов могла
запомнить номер телефона или распознать рукописную цифру.
«Мы ранее демонстрировали, что нейронные сети из нанопроводов могут
запоминать простые задачи. В этой работе мы показали, что они могут
работать с динамическими данными, которые получаются онлайн», — сказала
профессор Зденка Кунчич, руководитель исследования.
«Это важный прогресс, потому что онлайн-обучение является сложной
задачей при работе с большими объемами данных, которые могут постоянно
меняться. Обычный подход заключается в том, чтобы хранить данные в
памяти, а потом обучать модель машинного обучения с использованием этой
сохраненной информации. Но это потребовало бы слишком много энергии для
широкого применения», — добавила она.
«Наш новый подход позволяет нейронной сети из нанопроводов обучаться и
запоминать «на лету», образец за образцом, извлекая данные онлайн, тем
самым избегая большого расхода памяти и энергии», — заключила профессор
Кунчич.
