Космическое агентство Великобритании выделит 10,7 миллионов фунтов стерлингов на замену прибора российского производства на марсоходе Rosalind Franklin. Британские исследователи создадут новый прибор в рамках европейской миссии по поиску жизни на Марсе.
Устройство, получившее название Enfys, что в переводе с валлийского означает «радуга», заменит прибор российского производства на марсоходе Rosalind Franklin.
Космический аппарат Европейского космического агентства должен был быть запущен в прошлом году, но сотрудничество с российским космическим агентством прекратилось.
При дополнительном финансировании в размере 10,7 миллиона фунтов стерлингов от Космического агентства Великобритании команда, возглавляемая Университетом Аберистуита (University of Aberystwyth) в Уэльсе, создаст прибор, который позволит идентифицировать области на Марсе с «высоким потенциалом свидетельств жизни». Марсоход соберет образцы, пробурив около двух метров под поверхностью, и проанализирует их в бортовой лаборатории.
Учреждения Великобритании, участвующие в проекте, включают Лестерский университет, Брэдфордский университет, лабораторию космических наук Малларда Лондонского университетского колледжа (UCL) и лабораторию Резерфорда Эпплтона Совета по научно-техническому обеспечению.
Марсоход, построенный компанией Airbus в Стивенедже (город расположен в 43 километрах к северу от Лондона), должен приступить к исследованиям в 2028 году.
