Недавно Национальное аэрокосмическое агентство США NASA назвало девять отобранных компаний для разработки технико-экономического обоснования коммерческих подходов к доставке космических кораблей на Марс и предоставлению там необходимых услуг. В списке отобранных компаний присутствует и американская частная компания SpaceX.
По программе космического агентства NASA «Исследуем Марс вместе: запрос на коммерческие услуги» (Exploring Mars Together: Commercial Services Studies) она будет заниматься исследованиями по адаптации своих широкополосных интернет-спутников Starlink для использования в марсианской сети связи.
Всего космическим агентством отобрано девять компаний, в том числе Blue Origin, Lockheed Martin, United Launch Alliance, Astrobotic, Firefly Aerospace, Impulse Space, Albedo Space и Redwire Space. Предложенная компанией SpaceX идея является одной из дюжины предложений, которые получили финансирование NASA для концептуальных исследований. Результаты их исследований в конечном итоге должны поддержать стратегию космического агентства по доставке для лабораторного анализа образцов с Марса на Землю.
Разработкой технологии доставки крупных космических аппаратов на Марс будут заниматься компании Astrobotic, Blue Origin и United Launch Alliance, небольших космических аппаратов — компании Firefly Aerospace, Impulse Space и Lockheed Martin. Разработку технологии обработки изображений NASA доверило компаниям Albedo Space, Astrobotic и Redwire.
Следует отметить, что всем отобранным компаниям NASA выплатит от 200 000 до 300 000 долларов США. Отчёты по темам проведённых исследований в космическое агентство компании должны представить в августе 2024 года. NASA отмечает, что исследования могут привести к будущим запросам предложений, но пока не берёт на себя никаких обязательств по продолжению.
