Вода покрывает бОльшую часть поверхности нашей
планеты. Однако в океанах и морях она соленая, а в реках (по крайней мере в
подавляющем их большинстве) — пресная. Такое разделение по «солености» кроется
в геологической истории нашей планеты и поддерживается за счет «текущих»
природных процессов.
«Осолонение» океанов началось в то время, когда на
Земле стал зарождаться Мировой океан. Атмосфера Земли тогда была насыщена
вулканическими газами. Эти газы, вступая в реакцию с водой, образовывали
различные кислоты. Кислоты, в свою очередь, взаимодействовали с силикатами металлов,
которые присутствовали в породах на дне океана. Результатом этих химических
реакций стало образование солей, которые растворялись в воде Мирового океана и
постепенно, на протяжении длительного периода времени, повышали ее соленость.
Однако процесс накопления солей в океанах не
ограничился только этим фактором. На протяжении миллиардов лет и реки вносили
свой вклад в соленость морей и океанов. Протекая по суше, речные воды вымывают
минералы из горных пород, растворяя в своей воде содержащиеся в них соли. Эти
соли вместе с речной водой тоже попадают в моря и океаны.
В процессе «поставки» соли в моря и океаны есть
еще и третий важный фактор — испарение. Вода, в том числе и принесенная в моря
и океаны реками, постоянно испаряется с огромной площади поверхности водной
глади под воздействием солнечного тепла. В результате определенный объем воды в
океанах «теряется», а соли то остаются, что приводит к постепенному, пусть и
совсем небольшому, но увеличению их концентрации в воде.
Все эти «процессы» продолжаются миллиарды лет, что
и объясняет довольно «высокую соленость» океанской и морской воды.
А вот большинство рек «несут» пресную воду. Во-первых,
реки в основном пополняются атмосферными осадками или талым снегом. Такая вода
практически не содержит солей. Во-вторых, большинство рек текут по руслам,
которые формировались на протяжении тысячелетий или даже миллионов лет. За это
время породы в руслах рек, уже в значительной степени «промылись», и содержание
растворимых солей в водах рек существенно снизилось.
Кроме того, в отличие от океанов и морей, реки
представляют собой «динамические» системы с постоянным обновлением в них воды.
Соли, которые все же попадают в речную воду, быстро выносятся течением в моря и
океаны, не успевая накопиться в речной воде в значительных количествах.
Однако природа, как всё, всегда и везде, не терпит
абсолютных правил и иногда «подбрасывает» исключения из них. Существуют такие
исключения и в правиле о пресности воды в реках. В некоторых засушливых горных
регионах можно встретить соленые реки. Например, реки с повышенной соленостью
воды есть в Копетдаге — горной системе на границе Туркменистана и Ирана. В
таких местах высокая испаряемость в сочетании с геологическими особенностями
местности приводит к повышенной концентрации солей в речной воде и назвать
такую воду пресной уже нельзя.
