Чтобы исследовать этот вопрос ученые (Университет Наньтун, Китай) исследовали эмбрионы рыбок данио, которые подвергались воздействию сахара и искусственных подсластителей, известных как некалорийные моносахариды. Различные методы визуализации показали, что высокий уровень сахара заставляет эмбрионы вырабатывать больше новых кровеносных сосудов посредством процесса, называемого ангиогенезом. Ранее этот чрезмерный рост кровеносных сосудов связывали с осложнениями диабета, включая сердечно-сосудистые заболевания.
Ученые обнаружили, что у эмбрионов рыбок данио, получавших несколько различных некалорийных моносахаридов, развивались сходные проблемы с кровеносными сосудами. Все протестированные подсластители вызывали превращение незрелых клеток, выстилающих кровеносные сосуды, в активные клетки, которые способствуют ангиогенезу. Это привело к образованию большего количества новых кровеносных сосудов, которые ответвляются от уже существующих вен и артерий.
Эти данные свидетельствуют о том, что искусственные подсластители могут вызывать такие же повреждения кровеносных сосудов, как и сахар. Это может объяснить, почему люди, употребляющие много искусственных подсластителей, подвержены риску развития сердечных заболеваний и повышению уровня сахара в крови.
