Первый взгляд на енота, ничего кроме умиления не вызывает. Мимимишная зверушка с забавной острой мордочкой, глазками-пуговками и маленькими ручками, никого не оставляет равнодушным. Только через некоторое время, непосредственно столкнувшиеся с их повадками и творимыми безобразиями, участники событий понимают, насколько это хитрая и коварная тварюга. Именно так и произошло в Японии, где культ аниме и любовь к няшным зверькам, сыграли весьма злую шутку.
Как все началось
А началось все в далеком 1963 году, когда американский писатель Стерлинг Норт (Sterling North) впустил автобиографический рассказ о своей юности «Мошенник: воспоминания о лучшей эпохе», в котором в том числе, описывалось жизнеописание енота Раскала в качестве домашнего питомца, позволившего главному герою пережить тяжелую жизненную ситуацию. Книга получила несколько премий, а студия Дисней сняла по нему фильм «Шельмец (Rascal)» в 1969 году.
И все бы ничего, вышел фильм и ладно, но парням, снимающим аниме из Японии, сюжет настолько понравился, что они в 1977 году сняли аж 52-х серийный мультик по мотивам рассказа. Назывался аниме — «Rascal the Raccoon» (на японском Araiguma Rasakaru).
Енот в овечьей шкуре
После его выхода енот стал самой востребованной зверушкой в стране восходящего солнца, причем до этого, на острове подобный вид отсутствовал в принципе (не являлся эндемичным для этой территории). Есть похожие зверьки — енотовидные собаки тануки, но к енотам они практически не имеют отношения и живут тихо-мирно.
На фоне неожиданно возникшей популярности, еноты стали в массовом порядке завозиться в Японию из США в качестве домашних питомцев. В месяц количество ввезенных особей доходило до 1500 зверушек и поначалу никто это не контролировал.
Естественно хозяева, заполучив «милашек», совершенно не умели их содержать, в течение достаточно короткого времени понимали, что из себя представляет повзрослевший енот на самом деле. Енот хоть и обаятельный, но независимый дикий зверь, с непредсказуемым характером. Умная, хитрая бестия, которая может залезть куда угодно, сломать и разрушить что ни попадя, сожрать всё, что хоть отдаленно напоминает еду.
Поэтому от зверьков стали массово избавляться, а часть сбежала сама. К моменту, когда власти Японии поняли масштаб бедствия, момент был уже упущен — еноты, распространились практически по всей территории страны.
В связи с тем, что еноты не являлись частью островной экосистемы, а были завезены (инвазивный вид), у них практически не оказалось естественных врагов. Именно поэтому они стали плодиться «как кролики», вытеснив из естественной среды обитание некоторые другие виды млекопитающих, уже в 2004 году отмечалось, что они жили в 42 из 47 префектур.
Еноты наступают
Находчивые, всеядные и достаточно агрессивные зверюги уничтожают посевы злаков, кукурузы и овощей, копаются в мусоре, раскидывая его вокруг, воруют еду у домашнего скота на фермах, терроризируют рыбные хозяйства с открытыми бассейнами для разведения рыбы и креветок. Нанося ущерб сельскому хозяйству в районе 300 000 долларов ежегодно.
Кроме этого, они фактически отнимают еду у других эндемичных местных видов — змей, грызунов и пр. Уничтожают большое количество насекомых и птиц, например, выгоняя некоторые их виды из дупел деревьев, поедая яйца. Многие редкие виды попали под угрозу полного вымирания на острове.
Еноты, являясь достаточно неприхотливыми животными, приспосабливаются почти к любым условиям и могут жить как в городе, так и в сельской местности, строя себе жилища на чердаках домов, в вентиляционных шахтах и даже «захватывают» территорию охраняемых храмов, повреждая исторические строения. Например, пострадал Бёдо-ин в Киото.
В 2004 году, когда власти приняли закон об охране эндемичной экосистемы острова, енотов начали уничтожать, что естественно, вызвало вал недовольства у общественности и зоозащитных организаций.
Выход из ситуации пока не найден, хищные зверьки с мультяшной внешностью продолжают «жить-не тужить» и чувствовать себя вполне вольготно на захваченной ими территории.
