В рамках программы исследования Луны и миссии посадочного модуля SLIM японские учёные стремятся улучшить технологии, необходимые для исследования поверхности небесных тел с низкой гравитацией.
Проводимые исследования также будут направлены на создание технологии поддержки лунной деятельности человека в будущем, включающей совершенствование технологии мобильности, выживания в лунную ночь и проведения горных работ.
По мнению экспертного сообщества, во всём мире коммерческая деятельность, связанная с космосом и с Луной, будет активизироваться, поэтому важно снизить риск конфликтов по поводу разработки лунных ресурсов.
«Во всем мире идет жёсткая конкуренция. Наш посадочный модуль совершил посадку, и это проложило нам путь к Луне», — заявил президент Японского агентства аэрокосмических исследований (JAXA) Хироши Ямакава (Hiroshi Yamakawa) рано утром в субботу, 20 января 2024 года, на пресс-конференции в Институте космических наук в Сагамихаре ( Sagamihara).
Также на пресс-конференции была подчёркнута важность приобретения Японией технологий точного приземления на лунную поверхность. «Это усилит международное присутствие нашей страны в освоении Луны», — сказал Шиничи Накасука (Shinichi Nakasuka), профессор Токийского университета, специализирующийся на космических технологиях.
