Завершается
частично удачный эксперимент компании
Astrobotic — частный
лунный модуль Peregrine
отсчитывает последние
часы своего существования. Компания
принимает все меры для того, чтобы
завершение его жизненного цикла прошло
безопасно, но главная проблема в том,
что модуль, обогнув Луну, отправился
обратно к Земле и намерен «врезаться»
именно в неё, и совсем скоро.
Из-за утечки
топлива компании Astrobotic не
удалось осуществить мягкую посадку
Peregrine на
Луну, которая планировалась в следующем
месяце, поэтому уже 18 января он должен
войти в земную атмосферу, где,
предположительно, разрушится. В компании
обещают выбрать «самый безопасный путь
возвращения из всех возможных» для попадания в безлюдный район Тихого океана.
В компании
подчёркивают, что космический аппарат
отвечает на сигналы и весьма стабилен,
а сама компания поддерживает контакты
с правительством США для координации
«возвращения». По данным СМИ, во вторник
Peregrine находился
приблизительно в 294,5 тыс. км от Земли,
уже внутри лунной орбиты — спутник
Земли находится на расстоянии около
384,4 тыс. км от нашей планеты.
Изначально
учёные рассчитывали, что из-за утечки
топлива аппарат проработает недолго,
но пока Pergrine вполне
сохраняет работоспособность, проведя
более 8 дней в космосе. В субботу компании
даже удалось запустить один из главных
двигателей на 200 мс.
Впрочем,
соотношение топлива к окислителю в
баках модуля теперь совершенно не
соответствует норме, поэтому контролируемая
работа главных двигателей невозможна.
NASA и Astrobotic
планируют предоставить
новые данные о миссии сегодня, в 20:00 (по
московскому времени).
Peregrine
должен был стать первым
частным космическим аппаратом из США,
совершившим мягкую посадку на Луне.
Помимо оборудования для экспериментов
по заданию NASA, он несёт
многочисленные коммерческие грузы,
включая даже человеческие останки,
«погребение» которых планировалось на
Луне, но теперь, по иронии судьбы, они
вернутся на Землю.
В рамках
«коммерческой» программы NASA
Commercial Lunar Payloads Services (CLPS) планировалось
обеспечить косвенную поддержку программе
Artemis. Хотя первый эксперимент
не удался, уже в следующем месяце компания
Intuitive Machines тоже реализует под патронажем
CLPS собственный проект —
посадочный модуль отправится к Луне на
ракете Falcon 9 компании
SpaceX.
