Федеральное учреждение России НИЦ «Курчатовский институт» сотрудничает в области строительства гражданских подводных атомных лодок — газовозов с транснациональной энергетической компанией «Газпромом».
В открытых источниках отмечается, что существующие западные санкции и ограниченный экспорт газа из России ускорили поиск компанией новых путей транспортировки газа. Многие ресурсы пишут о том, что компанией осуществляется активная деятельность в этом направлении. При этом такими газовозозами сжиженный природный газ (СПГ) будет доставляться через Арктику на азиатский рынок.
Предполагается, что на газовозах будет установлено по три ядерных реактора «Ритм-200» и по три гребных винта. Каждый гребной винт будет приводиться в действие своим электродвигателем мощностью 30 МВт. Во время прохождения по Северному морскому пути газовозы не будут иметь контакта со льдом, поэтому их скорость будет составлять порядка 17 узлов. А это сокращает время на доставку СПГ потребителям в Азии с 20 до 12 суток.
— Атомная подводная лодка с гигантскими резервуарами для СПГ может обеспечить круглогодичную транспортировку с терминалов вдоль северного побережья Западной Азии, — заявил директор российского Курчатовского института Михаил Ковальчук (Mikhail Kovalchuk).
