К такому выводу пришли исследователи в ходе необычного
наблюдения, проводившегося по всей Англии с 2004 года. Результаты названы
защитниками природы «красным маркером» состояния окружающей среды в стране и
свидетельствуют о быстром разрушении многочисленных цепочек, в которых
участвуют насекомые. Сами, являясь пищевой базой для разного рода птиц и
животных, они играют важную роль в опылении растений, в борьбе с вредителями,
разложении отходов, переработке питательных веществ. Без насекомых экосистема
планеты разрушится.
Необычность методики исследования заключается в том, что главным
показателем количества насекомых были отметины от их столкновений с номерными
знаками машин. Такое явление хорошо известно автомобилистам и им всегда
приходится избавляться от следов насекомых на своих автомобилях.
Чтобы принять в ежегодном сезонном исследовании участникам
предлагалось перед поездкой очистить номерной знак машины, зафиксировать
маршрут поездки на телефоне, а после окончании поездки с помощью специальной
сетки посчитать количество раздавленных насекомых и сделать фотографию.
Затем данные и фото нужно загрузить в приложение Bugs Matter
и отправить в центр обработки. Там данные пересчитывались в количество
насекомых на милю пути и сравнивались с данными 2004-го года.
Результаты получились неоднородными. Так в Уэльсе количество
насекомых снизилось на 79 %, в Шотландии на 76. В Северной Ирландии наблюдения
проводились только с 2021 года и здесь снижение количества насекомых
зафиксировано на уровне 54 %. Абсолютный же «антирекорд» отмечен в Лондоне — 91
% по сравнению с 2004 годом. Средний показатель по стране составил 78 %.
Защитники природы связывают снижение численности насекомых с
общим изменением климата, изменениями в среде обитания насекомых, деятельностью
человека, в частности использованием пестицидов. При этом результаты
исследований в Великобритании коррелируются с аналогичными наблюдениями по
всему миру.
