Человек анализирует отличное от своего поведение хуже
Новое исследование показывает, что человеку трудно понять мнение людей, которые отличаются от нас. Люди склонны думать, что все члены внешней группы одинаковы, и будто у них схожие убеждения и взгляды.
По словам психологов, люди классифицируют друг друга в социальном плане. Те, кого можно считать похожими на себя, являются частью того, что социологи называют «внутренней группой», в то время как те, кого отличны, считаются «внешней группой».
Новое исследование подтвердило это, попросив 256 человек из США предсказать социальные и политические убеждения других людей. Группа респондентов была разделена поровну между теми, кто придерживался левых и правых политических взглядов. Ученые представили участникам исследования такие утверждения, как «иммигранты полезны для общества», и спросили их, в какой степени они с этим согласны. Затем показали им ответы других людей, которым был задан тот же вопрос.
«Если участник скажет, что он полностью согласен с тем, что иммигранты полезны для общества, ему будет представлен кто-то, кто скажет, что он категорически с этим не согласен», — объясняют исследователи.
Каждый раз, когда кто-то предсказывал, что думает другой человек, специалисты просили его указать, насколько он уверен в правильности своего прогноза по шкале от «совсем не уверен» до «чрезвычайно уверен».
«Мы обнаружили, что люди неизменно были очень уверены в точности своих прогнозов — 75 процентов уверенности, но что касается членов внешней группы, то они ошибались более чем в 60 процентах случаев», — добавил автор исследования Брайони Пэйн.
Как правило, люди лучше понимают членов своей группы, потому что они больше взаимодействуем с ними. Человек начинает лучше понимать круг людей в своей группе, понимая, что все они индивидуальны, у них разные мысли, убеждения и взгляды. Напротив, представление о членах внешней группы часто ограничивается тем, что слышно о них в новостях или в социальных сетях.
«Мы применяем то понимание, которое у нас есть от нескольких членов внешней группы, ко всем членам группы, а это означает, что мы неправильно понимаем многих людей, но нам кажется, что мы понимаем их очень хорошо», — подчеркивает Брайони Пэйн.
Люди с меньшей вероятностью будут помогать членам других групп, поскольку недоверие, неприязнь и враждебность по отношению к ним возрастают. Они также становятся менее склонны взаимодействовать с представителями других групп, предпочитая не работать, не жить рядом и даже не сидеть рядом с членами других социальных групп. Поскольку общество становится все более поляризованным, у людей становится меньше шансов оспорить и исправить неправильные взгляды.
