Внутри фрагмента Мёрчисонского метеорита учёные обнаружили следы древнейшей материи в Солнечной системе, ее называют красивым именем «Звездная пыль». Этот удивительный образец, возрастом около 7 миллиардов лет, стал ключом к пониманию истории жизни и угасания звезд в нашем ближайшем окружении, как утверждают исследователи в научном журнале Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Земля и другие планеты, включая Солнце, образовались приблизительно 4,5 миллиарда лет назад из сжатого облака материи, состоявшего из межзвёздного газа и пыли. Исследование этой космической пыли, замечают учёные, поможет раскрыть её роль в истории формирования и эволюции близлежащих звёзд.
Существует гипотеза, что первоначальные следы этой материи должны были сохраниться внутри комет и астероидов. Эти предположения подтверждаются миссиями OSIRIS-REx и «Хаябуса-2», которые в ближайшие годы должны доставить на Землю первые образцы из этих космических тел.
Стоит отметить, что приток материи в Солнечную систему прекратился из-за образования гелиосферы — пузыря из горячей плазмы солнечного ветра, окружающего планеты и предотвращающего проникновение частиц космической пыли внутрь.
«Мёрчисон» стал объектом интереса исследователей, поскольку в его внутренности скрыты тайны самых древних моментов в истории нашей галактики. Этот метеорит быстро привлёк внимание научного сообщества, благодаря обнаружению в нём аминокислот, «кирпичиков жизни», в том числе уникальных для Земли. Но на этот раз внимание исследователей было направлено на скромные частицы — зерна карбида кремния.
Эти частицы, явно межзвёздного происхождения, представляют собой важные элементы, образующиеся в верхних слоях атмосфер звёзд на заключительных этапах их эволюции. Их изучение позволяет понять, что происходило в галактике до образования Солнечной системы.
Для определения возраста этих частиц, исследователи воспользовались закономерностью: чем дольше они находились в межзвёздном пространстве, тем больше воздействия испытывали от космических лучей высокой энергии. Результаты указывают на две ключевых фазы — примерно 7 миллиардов лет назад и 4,6-4,9 миллиарда лет назад.
Эти открытия говорят о том, что перед формированием Солнечной системы произошли два значительных события звездообразования в нашей галактике. Это подчёркивает уникальность исследования Мёрчисонского метеорита и его способности предоставить ценные свидетельства о ранних этапах эволюции звезд.
