После многолетних ожиданий и невероятных усилий
специалисты NASA в рамках программы OSIRIS-REx доставили на Землю капсулу с
образцами камней, грунта и пыли, собранных с астероида Бенну. В 10:52 по
Североамериканскому восточному летнему времени в воскресенье 24.09.2023 года
спускаемый модуль приземлился на полигоне Министерства обороны США в штате Юта.
В течение 70-ти минут вертолетом ее доставили в
специальное помещение тренировочного полигона, где непрерывно обдувают азотом.
Постоянное воздействие этим газом являлось одной
из самых важных задач финальной стадии программы OSIRIS-REx так, как азот не
взаимодействует с другими химическими веществами и его поток в капсуле для
образцов будет препятствовать образованию земных загрязнений для сохранения
чистоты образцов.
Возвращенные образцы с астероида Бенну, дадут
возможность лучше понимать процессы образования планет, возникновения жизни на
Земле и дадут информацию о потенциальных опасностях астероидов.
Образцы с Бенну — массой приблизительно 250 грамм
— будут перевезены в космический центр штата Хьюстон, сегодня 25.09.2023 года.
Извлеченные образцы взвесят, опишут и задокументируют, а позже раздадут ученым
по всему миру.
Данная доставка астероидных образцов первая
для США и завершилась успешно благодаря огромным усилиям сотен людей, которые
дистанционно руководили путешествием автоматической межпланетной космической
станции OSIRIS-REx с момента ее запуска 8.09.2016г. Астероида станция достигла
31.12.2018г. Пробы грунта взяты 20.10.2020 года, а возвращение на Землю
состоялось — вчера, 24.09.2023 года.
Спускаемый модуль вошел в атмосферу Земли в 10:42
утра по Североамериканскому восточному летнему времени в воскресенье 24 сентября у побережья Калифорнии на высоте около 83 миль (133 километра). В
течение 10 минут она приземлилась на военном полигоне. Для торможения и
стабилизации полета были использованы два парашюта, что снизило скорость
капсулы до 11 миль в час (18 км / ч) при приземлении. Приземление капсулы
отслеживалось в зоне площадью 36 на 8,5 миль (58 на 14 километров).
